The annual report from The Bureau of Economic Analysis on the cost of major consumer spending categories for 2012 came out this week and it’s not surprising to see that once again the cost of prescription medication was higher in 2012. In 2012 prescription drug prices rose 3.6 percent, twice the 1.7 percent inflation rate, and while almost all other categories of health spending was lower in 2012, drugs remained the one higher category.

Edythe Kirchmaier and Florence Detlor are Facebook’s Oldest Users

Last week we noticed news stories on Edythe Kirchmaier, who at 105 is the oldest known registered user of Facebook. She took that title away from 102 year old Florence Detlor, who this summer got to meet Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook.

February 4th is World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is marked on February 4 to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. The international day is a project of the, World Health Organization (WHO) and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to support the goals of the World Cancer Declaration, the 2008 document signed by nearly every country in the world that pledges support to reduce death and illness caused by cancer by 2020.
